THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

The defining moment of the tragic Armenian history in the last century began on April 24, 1915 when hundreds of Armenian community leaders and scholars were deported and executed, continuing the Ottoman government’s systematic extermination of Armenians in their own historic homeland. Approximately 1.5 million Armenians were killed or deported in the Genocide, with some lucky survivors reaching hospitable countries like the United States.

While only 23 countries officially recognize the systematic extermination as Genocide, the Armenian community is working internationally to raise awareness on the 100th anniversary of this event. It has been said that as a result of the ongoing denial, current crimes against humanity, such as mass killings in Darfur, Sudan, Cambodia and countless other acts of brutality have never been stopped.

A genocide that is not condemned, begets another genocide.

Below is a letter from United States Representative Van Taylor who supported and cosponsored H. Res. 296, affirming the United States record on record the Armenian Genocide. We thank him and all the congressmen and congresswomen who voted in favor of H. Res. 296.
